Tribes Learning Communities – Tribes TLC®
is listed in the
Community Guide to Helping America's Youth,
an initiative of the White House
CenterSource is pleased to announce that Tribes Learning
Communities –
Tribes TLC® – appears on the new evidence-based
programs list that
was initiated by the White House in 2005 called
Helping America's Youth (HAY). The initiative represents
a collaborative effort of nine federal departments,
including the Department of Education, Department of
Justice, Department of Health and Human Services, Department
of Housing and Urban Development, Office of National Drug
Control Policy, National and Community Service, and others.
Tribes is recognized as a Level 3 program that displays “a
strong theoretical base and have been demonstrated to prevent
delinquency and other child and youthful problems or reduce risk
factors and enhance protective factors for them, using research
methods with at least single group pre- and post-treatment
measurements.” The rating is based on evaluation studies and
identifies the concepts of risk and protective factors as frameworks
for effective programs.
The Guide
summarizes significant results from evidence-based research on the
Tribes process, which shows that –
- Tribes TLC
has a positive impact on classroom environment
- teachers
report spending less time managing student behavior
- students
are significantly less likely to be referred for disciplinary
problems
- in
well-implemented classrooms and schools, students score
significantly higher on standardized tests than students from
comparison groups.
Recognition
from the Helping America’s Youth initiative can be used as
supportive documentation to access federal and state funding from
many different sources, including NCLB title funds and funds from
the other departments that have sponsored this initiative.
