Week 9 – When I really Want to Learn Something

This strategy is described in the Engaging All (high school) book, but it's pretty simple…ask student to complete the statement, "When I really want to learn something, this is what I do…" Listen carefully, as you will hear more responses about watching, doing, trying, asking, reading…and very few about getting a good lecture! You may want to chart responses (and do something with that for math?) for your own reference.
For younger students, the query might be two-fold: Name something that you know how to do, and you can remember how you learned how to do it.
Reflect on similarities/differences that were shared, how this information might affect our class, what can be changed to encourage more successful learning, how the agreements (participation?!) affects learning, and what students discovered about themselves.
