Tribes TLC® Basic Course
What It Is
A 24-hour hands-on training experience that will leave your staff inspired, motivated, and skilled in realizing how to provide every student with the knowledge, skills, and resiliency to be successful in a rapidly changing world.
Why You Want It
The Basic Course prepares your administrative and teaching staff to:
- Develop a positive learning environment in the classroom and school
- Teach students specific collaborative skills for social development
- Establish the Tribes agreements for a new pattern of interaction
- Ask a variety of reflection questions to increase learning
- Apply knowledge of the stages of group development to select appropriate cooperative learning strategies
- Initiate faculty groups for planning, peer coaching and support
How It Works
Participants experience over 40 learning strategies and evaluate how to apply to age/grade/subject specific classroom situations. Also included are a copy of the 432 page book, Tribes, A New Way of Learning and Being Together, by Jeanne Gibbs, a Certificate of Completion, and the materials to enable you to implement Tribes in the classroom and/or school community.
The Basic Course can be presented over 4 consecutive six-hour days, or divided into a “two and two” plan to support staff while they learn and experience the process and apply it to their teaching environments. CenterSource will work with you to design a training plan that fits your school schedule. Follow-up coaching and support are available.
Read what people who have had the course say:
We are always told to build a community atmosphere, but never told HOW. This has taught me how!
Tribes has truly defined me as a teacher. I was lucky enough to receive my “basic training” in my second year of my teaching career – what a gift! During my training, I really felt like Tribes had created a profile of the teacher I wanted to be and was providing me with the road map to get there. The process speaks deeply to what I believe education should do: foster confident people who see strengths in themselves and others and who find joy in the world around them.
